Eyob
Naizghi
Executive Director
In his early 20s, Eyob Naizghi became stateless, a refugee from
Eritrea. This experience led to over 30 years of commitment to social
justice for immigrants and refugees. In 1985 he earned an M.A. in
Geography from the University of British Columbia, specializing
in rural-urban migration. Before joining MOSAIC in 1993, Eyob managed
development projects with refugees. He also worked as a freelance
consultant, designing, developing, evaluating, and monitoring projects
with refugees and internally displaced people.
After
serving for eight years as Director of the Settlement Services Department,
Eyob was appointed Executive Director of MOSAIC in December 2000.
In this position, Eyob is responsible for achieving strategic, financial,
and operating objectives, and for ensuring the organization operates
in accordance with the policies established by MOSAIC's Board of
Directors.
Jiri Adler
Director of Language Services
Jiri Adler graduated from the College of Modern Languages in Prague,
specializing in Russian and Translation-Interpreting. For seven
years, he worked as a conference interpreter for the International
Association of Journalists and Prague Information Services. In 1989
he received a B.A. in Linguistics from Simon Fraser University,
and in 1994 he completed his graduate courses there. He began at
MOSAIC in 1989, as a Co-ordinator of the Translations Department.
He became Director of the Language Services Department in 1996.
Kelly
Pollack
Director of Employment and Language Programs
Kelly Pollack has worked in
the field of post-secondary training in diverse, multicultural
settings for over 18 years. Her background includes four years of
EFL instruction and program management overseas and over 15 years in
the private and not-for-profit sectors, managing government-funded
training programs and services for immigrants.
As MOSAIC’s
Director of Employment and Language Programs, Kelly is responsible
for the overall operations of the Language Centre, at the location
of MOSAIC’s ELSA classes and licensed childcare center, as well as a
variety of employment programs and services located at two sites:
1522 and 2555 Commercial Drive, Vancouver. On behalf of the agency,
she is also involved in key community/government initiatives
supporting the labour-market integration of immigrants.
Ninu
Kang
Director of Family Programs
Ninu Kang has a background in Clinical Counselling Psychology (M.A.).
She co-facilitates counselling groups for abusive men and women
who have experienced violence. Ninu Kang has formal facilitation
training in the area of conflict resolution, cross-cultural conflict,
and issues of oppression. In addition to her clinical practice,
Ninu teaches Cultural Competence Practice to social workers, probation
officers, police officers and women working in the area of violence
against women. She also teaches Group Skills, Antiracism Training,
Counselling Skills for Transition Workers and Parenting After Separation
Skills. She has provided training through the Justice Institute,
B.C./Yukon Society of Transition Houses, Surrey Delta Immigrant
Services Society, MOSAIC, and local colleges.
Sherman
S.M. Chan
Director of Settlement Services
Sherman has a M.Sc. in Applied Social Studies from the University
of Surrey, United Kingdom, and is a registered social worker and
registered clinical counselor. He has worked in the field of social
service for the past 27 years in Canada, Hong Kong, the United States
and Britain. Recently he has served as a working group co-chair
of the Canadian Council for Refugees and a B.C./Yukon Region Advisory
Committee member for Citizenship and Immigration Canada. He is active
in the assessment of occupational competency for the social service
sector, the development of national standards for settlement services
and the enhancement of youth, seniors, and clinical services. He
has written and presented more than twenty research and conference
papers.
Sue Trevor
Comptroller
Sue Trevor, a chartered accountant, began her career working for Touche Ross & Co. in Toronto. She has
since gone on to work with a variety of companies in several different industries. Sue became involved in non-profit and charitable organizations
through volunteering, and soon began to offer her own services to these organizations. For nearly five years, Sue was the founding Executive
Director of the Depressive and Manic Depressive Association of Ontario. She also acted as the controller of the Toronto Cricket, Skating and
Curling Club, a non-profit recreational facility with over 4,000 members. In 2001, after more than five-and-a-half years at the Club, Sue moved to
British Columbia.
Sue’s responsibilities at MOSAIC include financial management, human resources, facilities management,
information systems and direction of the accounting and operations team.
Bessy Ferris
Manager of the Community
Interpreting Services
Bessy Ferris holds a B.Sc. (University of Toronto) and a M.A. (Simon
Fraser University) degree. She has over 15 years of customer service
experience in both the private and public sector. Her academic,
employment, and volunteer experiences require her to work with
individuals from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds,
and with varying levels of English language proficiency.
In her current position, Bessy is responsible for contract
proposals, the development of service delivery structures, ensuring
service quality, account maintenance, the recruitment and evaluation
of interpreters, the delivery of workshops pertaining to
interpreting, and the supervision of our interpretations customer
service team.
Chava
Glouberman
Manager of the Translations Department
Chava Glouberman holds a B.A. degree in Economics with a major in
Business Management. She has extensive training and experience in
language-based work environments, retail service, and business planning.
Over the last decade she has worked successfully with a large number
of freelance contractors from a dizzying variety of cultural backgrounds.
Chava
is also an experienced user of database, word processing, desktop
publishing software, and graphic output, and has an in-depth understanding
of cross-platform needs and capabilities. Her experience as an interpreter
and translator is an asset for training and managing a large pool
of contractors and workers in both the Translation and the Community
Interpretation Services departments.
Kim
Ton
Manager of Family Support Programs
Bringing a background in law and counseling, Kim Ton joined MOSAIC
in 1989. She has worked here as a bilingual counselor, a family-support
worker, a counselor for men who abuse, the Community Action Program
for Children (CAPC) coordinator and the manager of Family Support
Program Initiatives. Kim is now responsible for the operation of
three projects: CAPC (Community Action Program for Children), Vietnamese
Family Support Initiatives, and Latin-American Family Program.
Victor
Porter
Community Outreach Manager
Originally from
Buenos Aires,
Argentina,
Victor Porter joined MOSAIC in 1992. Since then, he has held the
positions of Bilingual Counsellor, Community Outreach Programs
Manager, and Co-Acting Director of Settlement Services.
Victor is
dedicated to promoting integration and leadership within immigrant
communities, and to linking these communities with society at large.
He holds a BA in Justice Studies.
