Chef David Ryan

Chef Consultant/Culinary Instructor

Chef David Ryan began his cooking career in 1984, and has been competing in culinary competitions for almost as long. He currently holds multiple trophies, 28 gold medals, and is also one of the few two-time world champion holder of an Olympic Grand Gold medal – the highest recognition in a world national culinary competition.

"Competitions kept me cooking. We can't reinvent food or eating, but by competing I believe we can take that basic function and elevate it to an art," explained Chef Ryan.

His competitive nature has carried him around the world and back, leading him to his conviction that competitions are the best form of inspiration. His creations start with his Canadian roots and then branch out into every imaginable cuisine.

With a passion about the research and development of food, Chef Ryan firmly believes everyone should learn as much as they can about the future of our food. As a full time culinary instructor at Vancouver Community College, as well as a National team coach for Culinary Team Canada, he has dedicated his life to passing on his knowledge to the next generation of chefs.
