Staff of the Childcare CentreWhat About My Young Children?
Who will care for them when I am at school?

Our Childcare Centre
We have free licensed childcare for children six months to five years. Only children of the students who attend our school can stay in the childcare centre. Parents do not pay for the childcare; it is free.

Our Centre
We feel the most important thing is to provide a safe, friendly, and inviting place for children. We want the children to feel safe and comfortable so they can play and learn.
Two years ago, we built a new centre, which is bright and sunny. The children have lots of room to play with the many toys and activities. The childcare centre is in the same building as the school. Full-time parents have lunch with their children.

Our Program
We recognize, respect, and celebrate the children and families' cultures. Our toys, books, costumes, and music come from many cultures. Children learn through free play, songs, stories, and art. They learn to play together, solve problems, and to feel happy with their accomplishments.

Our six childcare teachers are experienced and qualified early childhood educators. They come from many different countries and speak seven different languages. We speak the child's first language whenever possible. This helps the children feel safe. Children do learn English through songs and activities.

Parent Information
Our parents are given information about nutrition, health, child development, and the educational system in Canada. This information is printed in both English and other languages.

Our Philosophy
We believe that:
Children should have a safe and familiar place where they can grow and learn to be happy with new friends, learn how to be healthy, and learn how to solve problems.
Children will feel good about themselves when they know that teachers respect their language and culture.

Parents can spend many days in the childcare centre with their children to help their children feel safe and happy before they begin their language classes.
Parents can tell the teachers what they think about the childcare program and give their ideas.

Childcare Teachers chose their work because they believe that keeping a first language is important, learning English is also important for Canadian settlement, and all cultures will be respected.

Childcare Teachers are respected and recognized for the work they do.
The communities from all cultures are respected and encouraged to contribute to the Childcare Program. MOSAIC Childcare believes those positive beginnings for children and families new to Canada will plant many seeds for positive experiences throughout a lifetime.

Guidance and Supervision
We show children respect by listening to them and trying to understand what they need.
We tell the children the rules of the childcare centre.
When children have problems following the rules, we ask them to play in another area.
We help them to learn that THEY are GOOD. It is what they do that must change. We help children to solve problems themselves.
