Client Story:
Anna immigrated to Canada in 1996, on a Live-In Caregiver visa. Having worked a number of survival jobs as a caregiver, Anna wanted to return to her previous profession once she was granted immigrant status as she could no longer work as a caregiver due to family responsibilities and the physical demands of the position.
Anna met with a MOSAIC Case Manager in January 2006 having established her EI status. With a Masters of Arts in Teaching from her home country and five years of experience in the field, it was determined that although Anna was self-motivated and confident in her abilities she lacked the local training and certification necessary to work as a Special Education Assistant. After conducting information interviews and meeting all of the entrance requirements, she was accepted into a training program and referred to iACT with a Return-to-Work Action Plan.
With the support of her iACT Assessment Counsellor, Anna was approved for sponsored-training. On completion of the program, she accepted an offer from the Vancouver School Board and began her employment as a Special Education Assistant in January 2007.
