Working definitions of interpretation and translation

Interpretation: to convey the meaning of one spoken language in another spoken language while preserving the semantic and lexical values of the source (original) language and respecting the syntactic, lexical and semantic values of the target (end) language.

Translation: to transfer the meaning of text written in one language to text written in another language while preserving the semantic and lexical values of the source (original) language and respecting the syntactic, lexical and semantic values of the target (resultant) language.

The translation process involves the rendition of lexical items (words) and appropriate rendition of syntax (grammar) and semantics (meaning).
