Employment Services for Persons with Disabilities

BC Centre for Ability provides employment services for Persons with Disabilities in the Vancouver Northeast Employment Centre.

BC Centre for Ability, is a non profit organization, established in 1969 to provide a continuum of services to children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families. 
 
The Centre’s mission statement is provide community-based services that enhance the quality of life for children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families in ways that facilitate and build competencies and foster inclusion in all aspects of life. Services provided include early intervention therapy services, school based occupational therapy consultation services, supported child development programs, acute brain injury rehabilitation services, social work and family support, youth transition services, community inclusion support for persons with complex physical and medical needs, vocational services and consultation services to employers in the recruitment and retention of persons with disabilities in the workplace.

Resource Centre
Our Resource Centre is an easy-to-use, accessible place to search for a job. You can use a computer with internet access, a fax machine, photocopier, and place a telephone call in a private place. You can also scan our job postings, learn about our workshops and one-on-one services and pick up information about other services for persons with disabilities in the community. Staff is available to answer any of your questions. Disability specific related software/hardware is available to support access for all clients.
 
One-on-one Services
Our Case Manager is specialized in helping job seekers with disabilities find employment. They can assess your skills; explore training options and in some cases, arrange funding; and help you develop and commit to a plan for finding employment. Your Case Manager can also assist with résumés, cover letters, job search techniques, and interview preparation.
 
Finding and Keeping a Job
We have helped many individuals with disabilities connect with employers who put a high priority on having a diverse workforce. You will find out about jobs that suit your skills and abilities and you will be supported throughout the job application process. Once you find a job, you will also be able to ask your Case Manager any questions you may have so that you are able to thrive in your new position.
 
We also provide consultation and training to employers on the recruitment and retention of individuals with disabilities.

  • Disability education and medication
  • Strategies to improve memory and attention
  • Understanding labour market and employer expectations
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills in the workplace
