Community
Outreach
Through a variety of projects and initiatives, the Community
Outreach staff promotes integration, leadership, and participation
within immigrant communities. Staff also works to create links between
immigrant communities and society at large.
Community
Development Initiatives
The Community Development Initiative gives community members a chance
to define and solve community problems. The Afghani Women's Group
provides an outlet for isolated women; the Kurdish group works for
better housing; and the Vietnamese effort provides information about
community services.
The Community Space Needs Study and the Inventory
of Community Meeting Places reports were commissioned to explore access to meeting spaces and facilitate their use by community groups. These
projects were funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage and can be viewed by clicking on either of the underlined titles.
Community-related Links
The Community Outreach Program regularly participates in conferences
and events to raise awareness of the challenges that immigrants
and refugees face.
