MOSAIC
Employment Programs
MOSAIC offers programs and services to assist
immigrants and refugees looking for work. For an introduction to our
programs and services, come to a Group Information Session (see
information below) and speak to a MOSAIC staff person.
Our programs and services are free of charge. They
are available to immigrants and refugees eligible to work in Canada.

Career
Decision Making and Job Search
A 4-week program for unemployed immigrants who have at least intermediate
level English. The program includes:
- group
instruction and one-to-one counselling;

researching careers in Canada;
-
cold calling and approaching employers;
-
networking and job leads;
-
résumé writing, cover letters, and responding to
job ads;
-
interview preparation;
-
access to computer, fax, photocopier, job board, and other resources;
-
support in setting realistic employment goals;
-
assessing skills, strengths, and qualifications;
-
workplace communication and business writing;
- access
to credential evaluation
-
labour market information.

Case
Management Services

Providing
individual assistance in identifying employment needs and developing
action plans for immigrants and refugees eligible to work in Canada.
Includes referrals to employment programs and services. Eligibility
criteria includes:
- Unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week

Direct to Work Program

Direct
to work offers
individualized
job search support and access to short workshops (modular) for those
who are job ready with advanced English skills, unemployed or
working less than 20 hours per week and eligible to work in Canada.
The program includes:

workshop
topics - resume writing, labour market information, job search
communication, workplace communication, workplace culture,
employment standards, interview skills as well as many others

access to
credential evaluation

New
Start Program

New
Start is a 6-week Job Search program for people with upper beginner
to lower intermediate English and little or no Canadian work experience.
The program includes:
- career
exploration: learn to find work you would like and are able to
do;

job search skills: learn to write a résumé and cover
letter, develop interview, and self-marketing skills;

12 hours of introduction to computers for job search;
-
30 hours of English language for the workplace and job search;
-
planning and setting goals for now and the future.

Immigrant
Access Centre for Training (iACT)

iACT
provides information, assistance, and funding to unemployed individuals wanting
to get back to work. The program assists immigrants who are on Employment
Insurance or have received EI in the last 3 years as well as those
on maternity or parental benefits within the last 5 years. iACT
counsellors will assist by:
- determining
the eligibility of clients;
- discussing
the application;
- discussing
the proposed training;
- negotiating
financial support;
- determining
the client's contribution;
- helping
the individual make the right decision regarding training.

Drop-in access
to computers, high-speed access to the Internet, fax machines,
photocopiers, labour market information, job search resources, and
