Family Programs
MOSAIC's Family Programs offer services
to help immigrant and refugee families build healthy relationships
and strong support systems as they settle in
Canada and integrate into Canadian society.
We provide
programs focusing on services for women, men, children and youth.
Many of these services are offered in clients’ first languages,
including Cantonese [BBV,
Safety Tips],
Hindi,
Japanese,
Korean,
Kurdish,
Mandarin,
Punjabi [BBV and
Stopping the
Violence], Somali,
Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese
[CAPC,
BBV,
Probation Outreach,
and Family Counselling]; occasionally,
interpretation services are provided to families who speak languages
other than the ones listed. Multicultural programs are delivered in
English.
Family Programs
offers a variety of programs focusing on Early Childhood Development
and Education (ECD and ECE), Violence Prevention and Counselling,
and Youth.
ECD and ECE
programs include:
1.
Multicultural Parenting Groups
·
Family Initiatives,
a CAPC program given in group format, provides parenting support,
education and resources to immigrant and refugee parents and
caregivers with children zero to five years. The program focuses on
healthy child development with activities designed specially for
immigrant children.

Family Place for Immigrant
Parents provides parenting support, education and resources in
group format to immigrant and refugee parents and caregivers with
children zero to five years. The program features an outreach family
drop-in facility focusing on healthy child development with
activities designed specially for immigrant children.

Parent and Child Time
provides parenting support, education and resources in group format
to immigrant and refugee parents and caregivers who have children
zero to five years. The program focuses on healthy child development
with activities designed specially for immigrant children.
2.
Home-based Parenting Support
·
Building Blocks Vancouver
(BBV)
is a home-based parenting support program providing regular home
visits to first-time parents, group education and support. We work
with families from the time they are in their last trimester of
pregnancy until their first-born reaches the age of five.
Violence
Prevention and Counselling programs include:
1.
Stopping the Violence
provides free individual and group counselling to women experiencing
emotional, physical, sexual, psychological, social and/or economic
abuse.
2.
Multicultural Victim Services
provides culturally appropriate services to victims of crime and/or
trauma.
3.
Men in Change
provides counselling and education to immigrant men who have
threatened, attempted or committed domestic violence against their
partners, or are at risk of such behaviour.
4.
Vietnamese Probation Outreach
assists in bridging cultural and linguistic gaps by providing
consultation and support to probation officers and Vietnamese
clients accessing probation services.
5. Vietnamese
Family Counselling Program
offers a
variety of family-related services for Vietnamese families in the
Strathcona neighbourhood and surrounding areas.
Youth programs
include:
1.
Nu Yu Theatre Project
provides training in popular theatre to multicultural immigrant and
refugee youth.
2.
Korean Immigrant Youth Project
provides Korean immigrant youth with a forum for communication and
participation.
Both youth
projects work in partnership with other organizations – namely
Immigrant Services Society, SUCCESS and Broadway Youth Centre – to
recruit, train, educate and empower immigrant and refugee youth and
their families, and link them to other community resources.
