Family Programs

MOSAIC's Family Programs offer services to help immigrant and refugee families build healthy relationships and strong support systems as they settle in Canada and integrate into Canadian society.

We provide programs focusing on services for women, men, children and youth. Many of these services are offered in clients’ first languages, including Cantonese [BBV, Safety Tips], Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Mandarin, Punjabi [BBV and Stopping the Violence], Somali, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese [CAPC, BBV, Probation Outreach, and Family Counselling]; occasionally, interpretation services are provided to families who speak languages other than the ones listed. Multicultural programs are delivered in English.

Family Programs offers a variety of programs focusing on Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD and ECE), Violence Prevention and Counselling, and Youth.

ECD and ECE programs include:

1.      Multicultural Parenting Groups

·         Family Initiatives, a CAPC program given in group format, provides parenting support, education and resources to immigrant and refugee parents and caregivers with children zero to five years. The program focuses on healthy child development with activities designed specially for immigrant children.

•   Family Place for Immigrant Parents provides parenting support, education and resources in group format to immigrant and refugee parents and caregivers with children zero to five years. The program features an outreach family drop-in facility focusing on healthy child development with activities designed specially for immigrant children.

·         Parent and Child Time provides parenting support, education and resources in group format to immigrant and refugee parents and caregivers who have children zero to five years. The program focuses on healthy child development with activities designed specially for immigrant children.

2.      Home-based Parenting Support

·         Building Blocks Vancouver (BBV) is a home-based parenting support program providing regular home visits to first-time parents, group education and support. We work with families from the time they are in their last trimester of pregnancy until their first-born reaches the age of five.

Violence Prevention and Counselling programs include:

1.      Stopping the Violence provides free individual and group counselling to women experiencing emotional, physical, sexual, psychological, social and/or economic abuse.

2.      Multicultural Victim Services provides culturally appropriate services to victims of crime and/or trauma.

3.      Men in Change provides counselling and education to immigrant men who have threatened, attempted or committed domestic violence against their partners, or are at risk of such behaviour.

4.      Vietnamese Probation Outreach assists in bridging cultural and linguistic gaps by providing consultation and support to probation officers and Vietnamese clients accessing probation services.

5.     Vietnamese Family Counselling Program offers a variety of family-related services for Vietnamese families in the Strathcona neighbourhood and surrounding areas.

Youth programs include:

1.      Nu Yu Theatre Project provides training in popular theatre to multicultural immigrant and refugee youth.

2.      Korean Immigrant Youth Project provides Korean immigrant youth with a forum for communication and participation.

Both youth projects work in partnership with other organizations – namely Immigrant Services Society, SUCCESS and Broadway Youth Centre – to recruit, train, educate and empower immigrant and refugee youth and their families, and link them to other community resources.
