Legal Advocacy Program 
Funded by the
Law Foundation of British Columbia,
the Legal Advocacy Program helps immigrants and refugees deal
effectively with Canada’s legal system, ensuring they have access to
justice, and are treated fairly with full awareness of their legal
rights and responsibilities. The program provides information,
summary advice, referrals and/or representation on such issues as
immigration, welfare, tenancy and employment. All services are
linguistically and culturally sensitive.

Who should access the program?
-
Individuals with low incomes and/or who have trouble with English
-
Individuals with little or no knowledge of the Canadian legal
system

Recent arrivals and individuals who have exhausted all other
available means
What is the first
appointment like?
Initial appointments are 45-minute intakes serving as first
points of contact with new clients; advocate services are not
guaranteed, as intakes simply aim to identify issues and determine
what services can be provided.
Please remember, program advocates may:

Only be able to give information or summary advice
-
Refer clients to other organizations for assistance
Client
information
Please be sure to arrive on time for your appointment. If
you must miss an appointment, please call to cancel. If you are over
15 minutes late, your appointment will automatically be rescheduled.
Limited
interpretation services are available; please let us know if you
need an interpreter.
Financial
assessment guidelines are used to determine client eligibility for
service.
All advocacy services provided by this program are free (except
filing and application fees, which are each client’s own cost).
