Preventing and Reducing Violence against Women and Girls in the Name of “Honour” Project

“There is No Honour in Violence Against Women” Campaign

On June 28th, 2014, MOSAIC launched the project Preventing and Reducing Violence Against Women and Girls in the Name of “Honour.” With funding from the Status of Women Canada, MOSAIC collaborated with community, justice and immigrant serving agencies to develop and implement a multi-agency strategy which would benefit women and girls from the immigrant communities who are experiencing, or are at-risk of violence committed against them in the name of “honour.” The findings have indicated that promoting awareness among women will help to reduce violence committed in the name of “honour;” the importance of creating dialogue to decrease the risks and barriers associated with shame; and to educate service providers about violence committed in the name of “honour” to improve standard of care.
