is committed to ensuring an inclusive volunteering environment for
newcomers to Canada. This includes assisting agencies to address
organizational barriers to volunteering, and creating more volunteer
opportunities in the community for newcomers to Canada.
If
inclusion is important to your organization and you would like support,
please phone our Volunteer Program Co-ordinator at 254-9626. We
can help you to:
- assess
your program for any barriers to newcomers;
- recruit
for diversity;
- develop
in-house training for your staff;
- get
creative about how to include people who are challenged by communicating
in English;
- develop
job descriptions that reflect the bonafide English requirements
of the task;
- simplify
your forms and print materials for use by ESL readers;
- interview
ESL speakers more effectively,
