Community
Volunteer Program Goals
1.
To support newcomers in settling in and adjusting to life in Canada.
The main goal of the Community Volunteer Program is to
encourage and assist immigrants and refugees in settling and
adjusting to life in
Canada,
and help them develop strong ties to the community.
We offer:
-
The
Kindness Club, a host program that matches
newcomers with a host who can help familiarize them with the
community and be a friend. Hosts also assist newcomers in becoming
involved in community volunteering by performing Random Acts
of Kindness.
-
Workshops
designed specifically for newcomers about volunteering in Canada,
with valuable information about how volunteering works and how it
may help them.
-
Individual support to help newcomers decide what volunteer
work they would like to do and how to search for a suitable
volunteer position.
-
Referrals
to volunteer centres or organizations in need of volunteers.
-
Placements in volunteer positions at MOSAIC.
-
Training
and support for community organizations, so they can
include more newcomers in their volunteer programs.
2.
To enhance our programs and services.
We strive to
improve the quality of the services we provide to newcomers by
recruiting volunteers to assist in our programs. Volunteers may be
newcomers to Canada themselves or native Canadians. Volunteers help
with administration, events and direct services for community
members.
