Volunteers
are important to us!
MOSAIC’s
volunteers are ordinary people, inspired to do extraordinary things!
Our volunteers work to create a welcoming community for immigrants
and refugees and help them in the settlement process. Each year,
between 175 and 200 people get involved in volunteer activities at
MOSAIC through our Community Volunteer Program. Some are newcomers
to Canada, while others are second, third or even fourth generation
Canadians! They are different people from different places, united
in their desire to get involved in and create a positive impact on
the lives of complete strangers.
Our main volunteer
program, the Kindness Club, is a hosting program that assists
newcomers in the settlement process, in making friends and in
becoming involved in the community. There are also many other
volunteer opportunities within the three MOSAIC sites. Volunteers
provide administrative support, give one-on-one assistance to
community members and work alongside program staff.
We also host
Volunteering in Canada workshops and refer volunteers from our
program to a wide variety of community organizations, in order to
help in such areas as health, housing, day care, technology and
environmental protection.
We truly value
the work volunteers do and the contributions they make, whether they
have a lot of time to give or just a little.
We
have a volunteer program because:
- We
believe community members can benefit from the volunteering
experience.
- We
believe community members possess unique skills, knowledge and
experience that can be shared with others, and volunteering
creates an opportunity for them to do this.
- We
believe newcomers and all community members are entitled to
participate in community organizations, at various levels of
decision-making and in the hands-on work we do.
